One Bench, One Match – A Whole New Ball Game

One Bench, One Match – A Whole New Ball Game is a brand-new initiative designed to bring people together through the power of football, connection, and shared experience.

On January 31st, at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, we’ll be hosting our first official meet-up as Sheffield Wednesday face Wrexham — a fixture set to be filled with passion, atmosphere, and community spirit.

Delivered in partnership with the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and the Campaign to End Loneliness, this project creates a safe, welcoming space for anyone who loves football but doesn’t always have someone to go with. We’re delighted to work with both organisations, and proud to stand alongside people who share our commitment to tackling loneliness and building community.

Whether you’ve lost a loved one, are new to the area, struggle with social anxiety, or simply want to meet people who “get it,” One Bench, One Match brings together like-minded fans with similar experiences. Everyone who attends shares one thing that matters: a love for Sheffield Wednesday and the comfort of watching the match with people who understand what they’re going through.

To make the day even more special, we’ll be supplying you with a ticket for the match vs Wrexham, along with a small gift , so you can show your club colours with pride. Everyone deserves to enjoy a day out at the football — and this project is here to make that possible.

The initiative is proudly supported by the Postcode Lottery Trust, LENSGO Visual Media and Goose Creative, and the Campaign to End Loneliness. Their backing ensures we can continue creating opportunities for people to meet, talk, and support one another in a place that already feels like home: the stands of Hillsborough.

One match. One shared experience. One new ball game for anyone who needs it - we'll meet you at the bench.
